First Wooden Mosaic

Each 8-legged stool that I have made has four corners cut off which creates four scrap triangle pieces of whatever wood I was using.

These have all ended up in a bin in my workshop. I thought that they were too pretty to toss so I began laying them out on the workbench.

This wall hanging is the result. It cronicles most of the stools that I have made so far.

Finishing mosaic pieces

Apply Minwax finish.

Each triangle is finished on 4 sides: Top and three sides.

Keep bottom clear so the glue will hold

The challenge here is to keep all the pieces in order.

I think this shot shows the 3-D nature of the piece better than the head-on picture.

Old frame

Old frame and backing

I first had these on a light wood pannel and framed with frame salvaged from an old portrait.

I felt the backing pannel was a tad too light so I put a stain on it. This made it too dark so I covered it with a diluted white paint and then wiped the access to soften it.

After all this work I thought it was a shame to frame it with a scrap frame. I laminated some Black Walnut and Oak to make a custom frame.
